Emily’s IXL journey: Week 1 (11-17 March)

Last week, we had a Parents Meeting at Emily’s school, and her teacher provided everyone with the IXL Learning app access. We were obviously familiar with the program previously, so when the opportunity came up to use it for Emily, we got really excited and jumped at the chance.

Emily used IXL Learning daily for the whole week ever since she got access on 11th of March to the Maths and English skills. Here are five of our favorite things about IXL:

  1. Emily found the program really easy to use. The app’s UI is very intuitive and requires absolutely no assistance from parents, promoting independent work. It’s also quite addictive — in the most positive sense — because Emily completed over 1,000 questions without us ever asking her to use IXL.
  2. The program is fully aligned with the UK national curriculum, providing comprehensive coverage of Maths and English concepts and applications. It’s so good to be able to find practice questions specifically tailored to Emily’s learning objectives. Moreover, all the topics are well broken down into individual components so they can be easily consumed if she only has a few minutes to study.
  3. IXL allows Emily to work at her own pace and advance through Maths and English as fast as she wants to without being held back by the UK national curriculum’s timeline. It has been a tremendous help for Emily in solidifying her skills and moving beyond what’s expected from her in the Reception Year.
  4. Emily can access the program virtually anywhere — at home or in the car, on her laptop, iPad or phone. She can study anywhere she wants and will always be caught up no matter where she is.
  5. Emily really loves the awards and certificates she gets for achieving every IXL milestone. She feels proud about completing all the activities and is very keen to see what she got after her hard work! In just one week, Emily got 7 certificates and couldn’t be more excited to share these first IXL milestones with her school teacher.
